Mixing Sermorelin: What to Know Before You Reconstitute

Sermorelin is a growth hormone releasing hormone analog supplied as a lyophilized powder, commonly in 5 mg, 9 mg, and 15 mg vials. Many people encounter it through a compounding pharmacy rather than as a research vial, which changes the starting point: pharmacy vials often arrive with a supplied diluent, a stated concentration, and instructions, in which case the reconstitution decision has already been made. The math below applies when you are mixing it yourself, and the calculator above is equally useful for checking a draw against a concentration someone else set.

  1. Bacteriostatic water vs. sterile water

    Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, which is what allows a vial to be punctured repeatedly over days or weeks. Sterile water has no preservative and is generally treated as single use. Sermorelin is typically dosed frequently, so the vial sees many punctures, and bacteriostatic water is the conventional choice when a diluent was not supplied. If your pharmacy provided a diluent, use what they provided.

  2. How much water to add

    Water volume sets concentration, not content. A 9 mg vial contains 9 mg whether you add 2 mL or 3 mL. Sermorelin doses are usually discussed in micrograms, so the draws are small and the water volume mostly determines how readable those draws are on the syringe.

Several conventional volumes are chosen for that kind of round number rather than for anything specific to the compound.   3. Mixing technique

    Direct the liquid down the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the powder, then swirl gently or let it stand until fully dissolved. Do not shake. The finished solution should be clear with no visible particles.

    Unopened vials keep cool and dark. Reconstituted vials are refrigerated. Where a pharmacy supplied the vial and diluent, the beyond use date they printed governs, and it is often shorter than the general convention. Common volumes run about 3 mL to 4.5 mL. At 9 mg in 4.5 mL the concentration is 2 mg/mL, or 20 mcg per unit, which makes a 200 mcg draw exactly 10 units. Water volume changes only the concentration, so pick one that gives a readable draw.
My sermorelin came from a pharmacy already mixed. Do I still need this?
The reconstitution step is already done, so the water volume decision is not yours to make. The calculator is still useful for converting your dose into syringe units at the concentration the pharmacy set, which is usually printed on the label.
